Some bands draw you in on the very first listen. Foxygen is one of those bands. The duo consists of 22-year-olds Sam France from Olympia and NYC’s Jonathan Rado. Their forthcoming EP, Take the Kids Off Broadway, will be out July 24th via Jagjaguwar. These two young songwriters are definitely on to something, and we dig it. It’s a bit of classic garage rock, garnished with a hint of psych, catchy melodies, and some horns thrown in for good measure. According to the label,
“They are the raw, de-Wes Andersonization of The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvets, Bowie, etc. that a whole mess of young people desperately need. They create a sometimes-impressionistic, sometimes-hyper-real portrait of sounds from specific places and times.”
We think the description is spot on. We can’t wait to hear more from this promising, young group. We’ll be content to keep “Make It Known” on repeat for now. When you’re ready to get hooked, stream and download the track below:
